Realtor Helps Put Puzzle Together

Alison Ashman, a Realtor with the Greenfield Hill Realty Group, part of the Higgins Group, compares real estate to a puzzle. All the pieces have to fit together, and it's her job to make sure that happens.

"I ask my clients a lot of questions to determine exactly what they are looking for," she says. Next, Alison researches available properties and identifies those that match clients' needs. The final stage is negotiating a deal that makes both the buyer and the seller happy. What Alison enjoys most is marketing Connecticut real estate to the highest level. "It's a win-win situation," she says.

Alison joined the Higgins Group in 2002 having known Rick Higgins for more than 30 years. She says she felt comfortable in real estate from her first day on the job. Her mother had been a Realtor, and Alison always loved looking at houses. Even now, she finds herself picking up real estate brochures when she travels. Alison credits her 20-plus years in sales and marketing for companies such as Liz Claiborne, Tiffany and Estée Lauder International, with giving her the skills to be successful in her new career.

Alison, husband Jim and their three children have lived in Fairfield, Conn., for the last eleven years. "We had looked everywhere — Rye, Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan," she says. Then Alison recalled summers riding ponies at her uncle's house in Greenfield Hills. They expanded their search to Fairfield. She remembers vividly the moment they first saw their home. "We were driving up the driveway and both went, 'Oh!'" she says.

Living in Fairfield has turned out to be everything the Ashmans hoped for. In addition to her work in real estate, Alison is involved in the community and has sat on the board of The Near and Far Aid Association and was a director at the Greens Farms Nursery School at the Westport Presbyterian Church. She's also a past co-chairman of the Fairfield County Hunt Club June Benefit Horse Show.
