Let's Talk About Curb Appeal

If you're hoping to sell your house in 2011, you’re probably busy sorting, cleaning and generally sprucing up your home. Here are a couple of important things to bear in mind as you tackle this enormous job. A buyer’s first impression is of the outside of your house. In fact, some buyers are so turned off by poor so-called "curb appeal" that they don’t even bother going inside. Make sure your home looks great from the street. Wipe down your front door, polish the brass knocker, get a new doormat and toss that old wreath. Make sure the path and steps are newly swept.

If the foundation plantings (bushes that grow next to the house) are overgrown or dying, clean them up. Cut back overgrowth from windows or pathways and replace sickly looking shrubs.

Remember, a little money spent on your home now will help your real estate agent market your home effectively, which means selling it more quickly for a price that's favorable to you.
