Fairfield Agent Turns Hobby to Good Use

Ken Banks is not the sort of chap to let an opportunity pass him by. When he discovered how much he was paying to have his real estate listings photographed by a professional, he figured he could do the job himself. “I went out and bought myself a great single lens reflex digital camera and learned how to use it,” says Ken. “It’s become my hobby.”

Ken moved into real estate from a career in banking in 2005. As he tells it, a regular client at the bank who happened to be a realtor convinced him to give it a try. Now Ken finds himself working seven days a week, many more hours than when he was at the bank. But he loves it. “I will never go back to punching a clock,” he says, pointing out that a real estate agent runs his own business and “you get out what you put in.”

In addition to his portfolio of listings in Fairfield, Ken is working on a major real estate project in Huntington. The Renaissance is a luxury development owned by Fairfield resident, Bob Scinto. The 17-story complex is a mix of condos and apartments, with an in-house restaurant, spa and gym. Ken and the team at Raveis in Southport are working on their new marketing plan. According to Ken, many of the tenants and owners are “snowbirds,” people who move to the sun for the winter.

If that doesn’t sound enough to keep Ken busy he has managed to parlay his hobby – photography – into a side business that ties in niecly with his day job. “I photograph all my listings,” he says. “And I photograph most of the listings for the other agents in our office, too”
