Editor's Choice: When Your Home is a "Compound"

Certain words go with certain things.  And others--well, they just don't.

Case in point:  the word "compound."  Now in real estate terms, you aren't going to see compound in a listing for a 2 bed/1 bath split level ranch.  Just won't happen.  House could be the home of your dreams, but you simply won't get compound status.  Remember, we're talking compound as in "Kennedy compound."

And compound as in 2 Rowayton Avenue, a new listing that may give you compound envy.  The 6 bedroom colonial has sea breezes, water views, a Master spa and a Chef's kitchen.  Basically, if there's a high end way of describing a bathroom, kitchen, you name it--it applies here.

The property's listed for a cool $3,295,000, but when you factor in the details--"top finishes, gorgeous patio with outdoor fireplace, steps from private beach"--well, it starts to seem worth the price.

And then there's the compound factor.  Oh--maybe you're not exactly sure about compound status?  Here's how it works:  if you can design a habitat that extends well beyond a house, you're talking compound.  Here's how the Raveis listing reads:  "Unique layout for creating the compound of your dreams:  barn, pool, pool house, garage, tennis court, or a guest house--surrounded by seclusion, beautiful landscaping and protected lands."

Wait.  Are they saying the pool and tennis court don't come with?
