With 55 years in Darien real estate between them, Doug Milne and Sheree Frank figured that joining forces as "The Home Team" would give their clients a huge advantage. "We both work really hard," says Milne. "And we have a different customer base, so we don't overlap." From 2005 to 2010, Sheree sold more homes than any agent in Darien. And during the same period, Doug sold the most real estate in terms of dollar volume.
"We can sit down with clients and tell them that they have the most experienced Realtors in Connecticut working for them," Milne says. And the partnership means they can each take time off because they trust their partner. "Sheree treats my clients as if they were her family," Milne says.
Selling real estate is tough in the current market. "Every buyer thinks they're overpaying, and every seller thinks they're underselling," Doug and Sheree say in unison. Success depends on financial astuteness and an understanding of the roller-coaster emotions that buyers and sellers experience. "Sheree has an amazing capacity to deal with everybody's emotions," says Doug. "She becomes totally involved in our clients' lives."
Doug enjoys complicated deals that require creative financing. And clients value his opinion. "Just the other day someone called me about a 3-acre parcel of land on the water," he says. "He wanted my thoughts on how best to sell it."
One thing that makes Doug and Sheree stand out is the distance they go for their clients. "We provide clients with our network of resources," says Milne. "From legal tax planning to something as simple as a baby sitter or an airport pick up."
They're also experts at thinking outside the box. Which is exactly what the Home Team did in June, when Milne and Frank organized the auction of a waterfront estate in Tokeneke. It went under the hammer for $8 million. "The seller was anxious to sell and get on with his life," says Milne. "We made it happen for him."
