With a background in advertising, its not surprising that Debra McArthur, a Realtor with William Pitt/Sothebys International, understands the value of marketing. Buyers are more picky now, she says. Most people start house hunting on the Internet and the information they find can be confusing. Debra says that real estate agents play a key role in helping buyers and sellers figure it all out.
Making sure a property looks its best is number one on Debras list. Im very particular about the photography for my listings, she says, and because of that she takes her own photographs. She helps sellers make sure their homes look appealing and she isn't afraid of a little hard work. Take the example of a Darien split level home, stuffed with years of accumulated furniture and treasures. All the rooms were painted a different color, she says, And the family room was full of oversized couches and exercise equipment. Debra went through each room, tagging pieces that had to go into storage, and reorganizing what was staying. Then the whole house was painted a soothing neutral color. The homeowner was thrilled when the house had multiple offers over the asking price. She downsized to a cottage in Shippan in Stamford and asked me if I would stage the new home for her, Debra says.
Debra has spent the past 17 years working mostly in Darien. But the storefront William Pitt/Sothebys office in Rowayton is her current focus, especially on Saturday mornings. Its such a cute space, she says. We want customers to come in and see it. A few weeks ago, the Girl Scouts came and sold cookies. One of the moms said she had another daughter who was a Brownie, Debra says, and so the Brownies came and sold cookies, too. William Pitt made a matching donation, which enabled the girls to send cookies to U.S. troops in the Middle East. We are proud and happy to give back to our community, Debra says.
