Church Bells Peal for Savvy Buyer

It’s not often that a church comes on the market, and a spectacular one at that!  Located on West Avenue in Norwalk, right next to the future District 95/7 mixed use development at the intersection of I-95 and Route 7, the large yellow brick church has been a landmark since it was built in 1896.

Before it was deconsecrated, this was the home of the First United Methodist Church, the oldest Methodist Congregation in New England.  The interior is furnished with carved oak pews on the lower level of the church, while the balcony has folding wood and wrought iron chairs.  Stunning stained glass windows grace the large facades.  The main organ is in full working order and a smaller organ is located in the community room for choir practice.  A real church bell is up in the bell tower --  if you’re lucky enough to get a tour of the church you might be allowed to pull the rope and make it peal!

Set on .613 acres, the church has over 7,000 sq ft of space on the main and second floors, with another 3,488 sq ft of finished basement space.  There is also a full catering kitchen.

What could you do with this church?  It could be a fabulous concert hall or cultural center, or an imaginative developer could have fun converting it into residences.  Asking price is $1,200,000.
