Call Her the Stress Buffer

Barbara Hickey was born and raised in Stamford and is proud of it. "Stamford is a great community," she says. "We have everything from the Long Island waterfront communities to the typical New England clapboard houses in the backcountry area in the north of the town. And let's not forget our thriving downtown area with its businesses and restaurants."

The Hickeys raised three children in Stamford, and Barbara is enthusiastic about the Stamford school system. "My children were so well-prepared for college and for their future because they grew up in a diverse environment," she continued.

Barbara's first career was as a mortgage broker, and she developed an early fascination with the world of house sales. She stayed home with her children while they were little, but when her brother, a property developer, introduced her to realtor June Rosenthal, she agreed to take a part-time job in June's busy real estate office.

As the kids got older, she realized that she'd fallen into the perfect job, so she studied for her license and started a new career as a real estate broker. She's been working exclusively in Stamford for more than 10 years. "Stamford is a large, bustling community with almost 120,000 inhabitants. I want to provide my customers with the best service, and I am very familiar with everything to do with our town," she told me.

Barbara loves her job. "The variety of different people who cross my path is very stimulating – plus I love the challenge of the negotiating and making the deal happen." Barbara understands that buying or selling a home is a very emotional experience and sees her role as a stress buffer, someone who can guide her clients along the path and smooth the way.
