If you're looking for a matchmaker, Nancy Crosland might be able to help. Since leaving college with a degree in psychology, Nancy has worked in various fields, all of which required her to connect people in one way or another. Her first job was as a talent agent at Wilhelmina, a model agency, where she placed actors in film and television jobs. Then she was a job counselor at Wilton High School. "I think of myself as a glorified matchmaker," she says with a laugh.
Since 2000, Nancy has been matching people with new homes. She's a real estate agent with William Pitt Sotheby's International and loves the challenges of her job. "I like being involved in people's lives for that short period of time that we're looking for their new home," she says.
Nancy keeps a frenetic work pace because she operates out of both the Wilton and Darien offices. Last summer, many clients were looking to move to larger homes. But this year seems to be the year of the downsizers, she says. Most recently, Nancy has been working with people who have been renting and who are now ready to buy a home. "A lot of people had trouble selling their old homes, so they rented while they waited for the market to improve," she says. The story was the same whether the clients were from London, Chicago or Florida.
Nancy finds that the rental market in Fairfield County has become very competitive. "It's hard to find a good rental," she says, "and when you do, there are often multiple offers." Her advice to anyone looking to rent a home is to make a quick decision or someone else will snap it up from under their feet.
