The Hartford Courant reports that the law, if passed, would establish a lottery for bear hunting licenses in the state.
According to the Courant, hunters would pay $10 to enter the lottery, and the selected few would pay an additional $200 for a license to actually hunt for bear.
Over most of the last 173 years, there have been few to no black bears in the state. But starting in the 1980s, they began to reappear in the state. In early June 2012, a black bear cub was caught wandering around downtown Greenwich.
