NORWALK, Conn. — It's billed as a parody, but a music video made by actor Chris Cafero, scion of a prominent Republican family in Norwalk, sends a clear message in these troubled political times.

Cafero, a 27-year-old actor, model and comedian, wrote, produced and stars in "Hillary," a spoof of the Amy Winehouse song "Valerie" with his comedy troupe Uncle Function.

The premise is that Cafero is the only Republican at a party. Who will he vote for? As the song goes, “I’m all out of options, they’re making a fool out of me, and now I have to vote for Hillary.”

"My primary goal with the video was to make people laugh," Cafero said in an email interview. "There is so much darkness and hate and anger in the world, and while we shouldn't ignore it, it's nice to take a break and have some fun. ...

"The whole joke behind the video is pretty simple – I do not think we have any good options this year for president," he said. "This election is obviously very serious and very contentious. But as a comedian, I wanted to find the funny in the situation. With regards to the political statements being made, I'll let the video speak for itself. But the overall message is, 'Yeah I think “I’m gonna have to vote for Hillary”-- but I'm not happy about it!'"

The video has more than 17,000 views on YouTube in just four days.

"If the video was able to capture all of that, while making people laugh for a few minutes, I'll consider it a success," Cafero said.

His lyrics include "She won’t be worse than Donald J., so we’re gonna have to vote for Hillary” and “Trump’s a psychopath who will lead us all to slaughter.”

But is Cafero really the only Republican at the party? The son of former Connecticut House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., he was president of the Class of 2006 at Brien McMahon High and a theater and political science major at The George Washington University.

"The question I've gotten the most is 'Wait, you're not really a Republican, are you?!'" Cafero said "Yes, I am technically registered Republican in Connecticut. The truth is, I really don't identify with many of the national Republican Party’s platforms and practices -- they largely do not represent my values and beliefs.

"But I am a proud Connecticut Republican. I grew up in a family that was very politically involved, with my father serving as a state representative from Norwalk [and New Canaan] for 22 years and as House Republican Leader for his final eight, before retiring from politics last year. I am extremely proud of him and his record of leadership and what he accomplished.

"He established and built a brand of common-sense Republicanism that was socially moderate and fiscally conservative -- a legacy that the state party continues to build upon. I wish the national party would follow suit."

Cafero, who has appeared on TV, in commercials, on stage and in films, is in the new HBO Miniseries “The Night Of.” He thanks the other Uncle Function members as well as his family for their help with the video.
