NORWALK, Conn. All of Norwalks state representatives and its state senator earned perfect scores for their environmental voting records this year.
According to the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters 2012 Environmental Scorecard, Sen. Bob Duff (D-Norwalk/Darien) and Reps. Chris Perone (D-Norwalk), Bruce Morris (D-Norwalk), Terrie Wood (R-Darien/Rowayton), Larry Cafero (R-Norwalk) and Gail Lavielle (R-Norwalk/Wilton) all earned scores of 100 percent. The scores were based on their votes on bills related to the environment.
Lavielle was one of 11 state lawmakers highlighted as Legislative Champions by the league.
As a freshman legislator, Rep. Lavielle made it a priority to fight for the protection of Long Island Sound, the league wrote in its report. As a member of the Long Island Sound Caucus, she continues to fight for sustainable coastal zone management and environmentally responsible marina dredging.
The league tracked voting on 21 bills during the most recent legislative session. Of those 21, eight were perceived by the league to be hostile to the environment, while the other 13 were favorable. Four of the pro-environment bills passed, and all eight hostile bills failed.
According to the league, environmental priorities are trending upward in the state legislature. On the 2011 Environmental Scorecard, the average score was 76 percent, compared with 91 percent in 2012. This year, 53 more legislators received scores of 80 percent or higher than last year.
