Himes, D-4th District, will visit 29 young Bridgeport musicians from Kids Empowered by Your Support during their weekly rehearsal Saturday afternnoon with the staff of the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestra. This orchestra program is led by KEYS, which provides private music lessons to children from underserved communities. The group meets at Roger Ludlow Middle School, 689 Unquowa Road, Fairfield.

He will then host an awards ceremony and reception for this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Entries will be displayed and winners will be announced after a round of judging by a panel of local artists. Himes will meet the student artists and their families. The event will  be from 4 to 5 p.m. at Pop CIty, 68 Wall St., Norwalk.

The winner from this competition will have their piece displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year alongside winning entries from across the country and will be invited to attend the opening ceremonies in Washington, D.C., in June. The runners-up will have their work displayed in Himes' Congressional offices in Stamford and Bridgeport.

The competition drew more than 60 entries from across the Fourth District and was judged by an independent panel of artists, including Jackie Lightfield, special adviser to the Greater Norwalk Arts Council and co-founder of Norwalk 2.0; Helen During, visual arts director and curator for the Westport Arts Center; Darien-based artist Jan Raymond; New York-based artist Xiomáro; Bridgeport-based artist Ricky Mestre; and Norwalk-based artist Duvian Montoya.
