Debicella is a former state senator and businessman from Shelton who is running to represent Connecticut’s Fourth District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is challenging incumbent Democrat Jim Himes in this November’s election.
Debicella has made the federal budget one of cornerstones of his campaign. In an interview with the Daily Voice at his campaign headquarters in Fairfield, Debicella discussed how his proposal, dubbed the “Penny Plan” could eliminate the government’s $17 trillion deficit by 2020.
He believes that by cutting 1 percent of spending over the next five years, the country’s debt can be eliminated.
“Cutting back 1 percent a year, it’s tough, but families do it all the time. Our government has to do itm too,” Debicella said.
