Truck Snags Wire In Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – A minor traffic diversion resulted Tuesday in Norwalk when a tractor-trailer snagged a wire near Norden Place, pulling communications equipment down from a pole and smashing the truck's windshield.

No one lost power, according to a Connecticut Light and Power worker on the scene at about 1 p.m. The wires lying in the road were not live, he said. The traffic light was out at East and Norden, but he said that was an unrelated problem.

The truck driver said he initially thought a transformer had fallen on his vehicle, and said he was surprised by the amount of attention the incident received, as reporters and a television news crew arrived to see what had been described as live wires in the road.

Greenfield Road, a side street, was closed, but Norden Place was not. A police officer allowed one lane of traffic to pass the stopped truck and the wires around it. No one was injured.
