NORWALK, Conn. A 23-year-old Stamford man was charged with kidnapping Wednesday after Norwalk police spent about three hours looking for him and his girlfriend, Sgt. James Boff said.
Aldo Rameriz, of 150 Southfield Ave., climbed through a screen on the second floor of a Norwalk home Wednesday morning to get to his 33-year-old girlfriend, who was at her brother's house on Taylor Avenue, Boff said. An argument ensued, Boff said, and she called 911. When police called back, her brother answered and became alarmed because he had seen her leave in a cab with Ramirez and because the screen was broken, Boff said.
Rameriz forced her into the cab, according to Sgt. Thomas Roncinske. "The individual that broke into the house had previously tried to commit suicide, and we felt this was a very dangerous situation because of the way he was acting," he said. "We were definitely afraid of what he might do to the victim. We were very happy to be able to locate him and get the victim back safely."
The couple met 11 months ago in the Bronx, N.Y., and now share an apartment in Stamford, Boff said. The woman told police Ramirez put a cord around his neck Tuesday because he was upset with her. He thought she had flashed her nipple to a neighbor in Stamford, Boff said. The neighbor came by with a dog, and when the girlfriend reached down to pat the dog her breast came out, he said.
He was still angry when he found her at her brother's, Boff said. That led to the argument, and when she called police they were screaming and yelling at each other, he said.
The cab driver who picked them up thought they were cute and took them around the block, where they made a bed of newspapers in the woods and talked things over, Boff said. They borrowed a cellphone and called her brother to say she was OK. Then they went to TJ Maxx, where he used her credit card to buy her a shirt and some shoes, because she wasn't wearing shoes when they left. He also used the credit card to pay the cabbie.
Then they went to Friendly's in Darien, where police found them. The woman told police Ramirez had gotten her into the cab by force, holding her arm and pushing her. She didn't want to go, but she didn't say anything because she was afraid, police said.
Ramirez was charged with kidnapping, home invasion, second-degree unlawful restraint, illegal use of a credit card and credit card theft. Bond was set at $200,000.
