‘Road Rage’ Incident In Norwalk Leads To Damaged Cars, Arrest

NORWALK, Conn. – An incident of what Norwalk police called “road rage” between two drivers Thursday resulted in damage to both of their cars and officers arresting one driver and issuing a summons for the other, police said.

The incident began on I-95 near Exit 19 on Thursday night, police said. Jose Hernandez, 30, of Riverside Avenue in Westport, told officers that Robert Ermark, 43, of Cove Avenue in Norwalk, cut him off while the two were southbound on I-95 near Exit 19, police said.

The story moves in different directions from there. Hernandez followed Ermark to the intersection of Winfield Street and Strawberry Hill Avenue in Norwalk, where he and passenger Rafael Rocha, 30, of Vermont Street in Fairfield, jumped out of his car, police said. Ermark claims Hernandez stabbed one of the rear tires with a knife, prompting Ermark to back up, smash his car into Hernandez’s and drive off, police said.

Hernandez claims Ermark backed into the car and Hernandez, then stabbed the tire to stop it from driving off, police said.

Police arrested Hernandez on misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and breach of peace and Rocha on a charge of breach of peace. Ermark was issued summonses on charges of evading responsibility and unsafe backing.

Both have a June 28 date in Norwalk Superior Court.
