NORWALK, Conn. Police recovered two handguns believed to be used in a shooting in Norwalk on Wednesday night. No arrests were made in connection to the incident, in which two cars were hit during the shooting.
A Norwalk officer was patrolling the area of the Monterey Village housing complex with his windows down at around 6:45 p.m. when he heard the sound of gunshots coming from the area of Woodward Avenue. Around that time, police began receiving 911 calls from area residents reporting gunfire.
Several police officers arrived on the scene and cordoned off the streets around Woodward Avenue and Sheridan Street. They questioned two men on Lawrence Street who witnesses said might be involved. Police said that one of the men was irate and not cooperating until a second unit arrived. He told police that he believed he was the intended target of the shooting.
Several witnesses spoke to the police about the incident. Some told officers that they had seen a man wearing a t-shirt and cargo shorts shooting in the area of Sheridan Street and then fled, police said.
Police said that they were able to recover two handguns that had been tossed into a yard on Woodward Avenue.
There were no injuries in the shooting, but a blue Honda and a white Jeep were both struck by bullets, police said.
Two people were arrested during the investigation for trespassing on Lawrence Street. Police received a complaint from a resident who said there were two men in her yard she did not know. Police said officers questioned them, and one, a 24-year-old Bridgeport man said that was visiting a friend there. Police said he kept changing his story and had no business being there.
The man and his companion, a 17-year-old youthful offender from Norwalk, were both arrested and charged with simple trespassing, an infraction.
Norwalk detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting incident.
