Daniel Traisman, 27, was charged with criminal attempt to commit third-degree larceny. He was held on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 8.

Police were called to the Walmart at around 12:30 p.m. Monday on a report of two people who had tried to steal TVs. They were told the two had driven off in a BMW, but when they arrived an employee pointed out Traisman, who was standing near a register and appeared very nervous and agitated, according to police reports.

An employee told police Traisman had put two TVs in his shopping cart along with two Airsoft guns, a printer, an ink jet pack and a sound bar. He was walking toward the Garden Center exit when he was stopped by an employee, police said. He told the employee he was just going to his car to get his cell phone, police said.

Once he was stopped, he began to move his cart toward the registers. He then grabbed one of the TVs out of the cart and tried to walk out the front door, according to police reports.

The two TVs were a 50-inch UHD TV worth $948 and a 40-inch UHD TV worth $320, police said. The total value of the items in his cart was $2,200, police said. Traisman denied any knowledge of the other person that he had been spotted with, and the other person did not end up leaving with any merchandise, police said.
