Norwalk Woman Charged In Theft Of $20,000

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk woman was arrested on burglary charges after she was accused of helping to steal $20,000 in cash from a Norwalk man.

According to police, a man living in the Garden Park Motel on Westport Avenue reported that somebody had stolen the cash from his room in June. He had returned home to find that somebody had broken the lock on his bathroom window, moved his bureau and took the bag with the money in it.

The man told police that only three people knew the money had been there, and that he had routinely taken money out of the bag in front of them.

Police issued warrants for the arrest of the individuals and Deidre O’Neill, 47, of 27 Hawthorne Drive turned herself in on Monday. She was charged with second-degree larceny, third-degree burglary and conspiracy. Police said there is a warrant out for the arrest of another man believed to be involved in the case.

The following was also reported in the Norwalk police blotter:

A man chased off four men he believed were trying to steal his car in the parking lot of the Lockwood-Matthews Mansion Museum. Police responded to the area Monday night on reports of a motor vehicle burglary and saw four people running across the lot with another chasing them. The man told police that he had been with his kids when he looked over at his car and saw two men standing near it, and another getting out of the front seat. Thinking they were trying to steal it, he ran after them but they got away. He told police that the car was left unlocked, and nothing appeared to be taken.
