Jenny Morales, 44, was charged with third-degree larceny and third-degree burglary. Morales is currently incarcerated and was served the arrest warrant for these charges Wednesday.

The charges stem from a break-in to a home on New Canaan Avenue on April 21, police said.

The residents returned home and found the back door open and several items missing, including jewelry. Norwalk detectives began an extensive investigation and began canvassing the area, speaking with neighbors and business owners, and checking surveillance video from nearby businesses and residences.

Officers were able to find surveillance video of a vehicle believed to be used in the burglary, and tracked down the owner, police said. The owner said that she had loaned it to a friend, who offices then contacted, police said.

He told officers that he had picked up Morales and given her a ride, and that she asked him to stop at the New Canaan Avenue home, police said. She told him that she was getting gas money from her aunt's house, according to police reports.

After the burglary, several nearby business owners reported that Morales had tried to barter for gas using a gold bracelet, police said. Morales was identified using photo lineups and surveillance video and a warrant was applied for her arrest, police said.
