NORWALK, Conn., -- The Norwalk Police Community Services Unit teamed with Stop & Shop and People's United Bank for a recent "Purse Patrol."

This event is designed to show shoppers how quickly a thief can steal their valuables out of a carriage or basket when left unattended.

Always keep your valuables such as purses, wallets and cellular phones on your person while shopping, police said.

If you need to leave a bag or purse in a carriage, loop the child restraint belt through your bag/purse straps to make it difficult for a thief to quickly snatch it.
