Craig Baldwin, 22, was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was held on $2,500 bond and will appear in court July 14.
Police were called to the park at 11:24 p.m. Sunday on a report of shots fired. The entire shift responded and encountered a large party at the park with 500 to 600 people present, police said. Officers saw several people running from the area, screaming and bleeding, according to police reports.
Police said there had been a large brawl. An investigation determined that Baldwin, a hired security person, had fired two rounds from a .45-caliber handgun, police said. Police said Baldwin had a valid pistol permit, and the gun he fired belonged to him.
Nobody was injured from the shots, and the people who were bleeding were believed to have been injured during the brawl, according to police.
Police said that there were indications another person had also fired shots during the incident.
Police said the cause and extent of the brawl are still under investigation.
Due to the large number of people in attendance at the park, police from Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton were called in to assist.
