Norwalk Police Investigating Roodner Court Shooting

NORWALK, Conn. — Norwalk Police are investigating a shooting at Roodner Court that has sent one victim to the Norwalk Hospital.

The shooting was reported at 5:55 p.m. in building 12 at the housing project off Ely Avenue, Sgt. Thomas Roncinske said. Patrol officers arrived and found a male victim in the hallway of the first floor with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers aided the victim, who suffered serious injuries, and he was taken to the hospital, according to Roncinske, the commander of the detective bureau's A squad.

The detective bureau has developed a suspect and is actively pursuing a number of promising investigative leads, Roncinske said.

Building 12 was evacuated and sealed off. Residents were still prevented from entering as of 7:45 p.m.

According to witnesses, a woman who came out of the building with an infant and a toddler was the victim's girlfriend. The witnesses said the victim is the child's father.

At least 11 police officers investigated. In addition to building 12, building 20 was also evacuated as police searched for the shooter. Residents were allowed to reenter at about 6:40 p.m.

One officer with a 12-gauge shotgun was standing guard nearby, between buildings 18 and 19, keeping an eye on the area behind the property.
