Norwalk Police Officers Rewarded For Efforts

NORWALK, Conn. – The baby was gray, according to Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik. Officer Justin Bisceglie helped him to begin breathing.

Bisceglie was just one of the officers recognized for his work at Monday's Police Commission meeting. Three Norwalk Police officers were promoted, filling vacancies and attaining long-term dreams.

Officer Jared Zwickler chased down an armed felon in the Roodner Court housing complex June 6, police say. Zwickler was named June Officer of the Month and received a distinguished service award.

Bisceglie was sent to help a newborn child June 10 on Baxter Drive. He was "instrumental in saving the child's life," Kulhawik said. Bisceglie was given a Medal of Merit Lifesaving Award.

Officers Vidal Gonez, Garrett Kruger, Thomas Kalamaras and Matthew Policastro are credited with arresting a man who police say attacked his sleeping wife with a pool cue May 30. They were given meritorious commendation certificates.

Sgts. James Walsh and Art Weisgerber were promoted to lieutenant. Officer Dean Russo was promoted to sergeant.

More than $11,000 was raised in the recent Tip A Cop fundraiser at the Ash Creek Saloon, which was organized by Officer Edward Schwartz, Kulhawik said. Schwartz also coordinated the Special Olympics torch run. He was awarded a meritorious commendation certificate for his efforts.
