Members of the department’s narcotics street team was patrolling in the area of Ely Avenue and Austin Street at about 9:30 p.m. Monday when they saw two males walking in the street, police said. The officers recognized the men from prior contact and stopped to speak with them, police said.
One of the men, Andre McCrae, was carrying a backpack, which smelled of marijuana, police said. Upon searching the bag, police found 122 individual baggies of marijuana, police said.
McCrae was charged with possession of a controlled substance or less than four ounces of marijuana and illegal manufacture, distribution, sale of a controlled substance. He was issued $5,000 bond and a court date of March 17, police said.
