NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Police Department recently recognized Lt. James Walsh, Detective Christopher Imparato, Officer John Haggerty and Officer Taranjit Singh as the September Officers of the Month for their work solving car thefts, assaults and cold case murders.

Walsh and Singh were recognized for their observation and apprehension of several car thieves who were in a stolen SUV. Chief Thomas Kulhawik noted that their keen observation and quick response ensured that the suspects did not engage in a pursuit or elude capture. Kulhawik thanked the officers for their professionalism, hard work and for being exemplary role models to fellow officers.

Haggerty was recognized for his work handling an assault that occurred on Main Avenue, when he quickly located three assault suspects, one of whom had sustained a life threatening injury. After handcuffing two of the suspects, Haggerty applied a tourniquet to the injured suspect, which stopped the bleeding and allowed the suspect to eventually recover. Hours later Haggerty located and arrested a parole violator who had been wanted for several months. Kulhawik thanked Haggerty for a job well done, and for once again displaying dedication and resourcefulness in the line of duty.

Imparto was recognized for his long term and tireless pursuit of justice regarding two cold case murder investigations. As a result, two suspects were arrested and charged with the murders. Kulhawik expressed gratitude on behalf of the victims' families and fellow officers.

"The quality of your work stands as an inspiration for your fellow officers to emulate," Kulhawik said.
