Police told the Hour that officers with the Strategic Narcotics Enforcement Team saw a group of people outside a liquor store in the area of Ely Avenue and Mulvoy Avenue, drinking and blocking traffic. When they went over to talk to them, one member of the group got onto his bike and peddled off, the Hour reported.
He ran a stop sign and disappeared, but was eventually stopped briefly on Henry Street before taking off again, according to the Hour. He was stopped a second time and searched, and police found a knife and two small packets of heroin in his pocket, as well as an earbud case with 10 bags of heroin, the Hour reported.
The man, identified as 53-year-old David Bookhardt, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, interfering with an officer, possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school, possession with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, failure to obey a stop sign and improper passing on a bicycle. He was given a $10,000 bond and a July 14 court date.
