The owner of a check-cashing business on North Main Street called to report the incident Friday afternoon. The witness told police that a man he recognized as Christopher Starks, 43, of Norwalk, brought in a 17-year-old girl as a new customer, according to police reports.
The girl filled out a new account form using a false name and tried to cash a check worth $7,975, police said. The store’s owner checked bank records and found that the check had been reported stolen, according to the police report. Starks later told police that the girl, a resident of Severin, Md., offered him some of the money for his help cashing the check, police said.
Starks and the juvenile were each charged with third-degree and sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, two counts of forgery and one count of criminal impersonation.
Starks was released on $5,000 bond and is due in court Oct. 7. The 17-year-old was taken to juvenile detention to await her court date.
