The man who died in the fire at 30 West Rocks Road was identified by a neighbor as Frederick Bassler, The Hour said.
The fire was reported at about 1:15 p.m. by a passing motorist who saw smoke, and it took two hours to extinguish, The Hour said.
When firefighters arrived, they searched the home, found Bassler on the first floor and performed CPR after taking him outside, the story said.

Firefighters reported extreme hoarding conditions inside the home, with piles of trash 3 feet high in every room with a narrow path through the home, The Hour said.
The firefighters had to cut holes in the roof to battle the blaze.
The Stamford Fire Department responded with an engine and firefighters to assist.
This was the second fatal fire in two months in Norwalk with hoarding conditions.
Last month, 67--year-old Alice Klavun died of smoke inhalation in a fire in her home on Bettswood Road.
Klavun was an avid knitter and kept parrots at her home, which was filled with debris in what firefighters described as hoarding conditions.
Items almost reached the ceiling of the home, and firefighters were forced to crawl on top of the debris to find the victim, fire officials said.
