NORWALK, Conn. — An intoxicated Norwalk man was charged with assaulting a person in wheelchair during an early Sunday attack, according to Norwalk police.
Police said Thomas Valeo, 43, kicked the victim, who fell backwards in the 3 a.m. incident. The victim fell on a TV stand and broke several items in the residence during the fall, police said.
Although the victim uses a wheelchair and has health-related ailments, the victim was able to get back up, police said. Valeo then punched the victim twice on the left side of the face, police said.
Police said the victim sustained facial and upper body injuries but declined to go to the hospital.
The incident began when the victim tried to get Valeo out of his/her bed, police said. Police declined to identify the age or sex of the victim or give further details of the incident.
Valeo was charged with assault of an elderly, blind, disabled, pregnant or person with intellectual disabilities and disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $5,000 with a court date of April 18, police said.
