Carlos Linares, 40, of Norwalk, was charged with first-degree assault. He was being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Jan. 10 in court.

Police received a report of a 43-year-old man bleeding from the head Monday night on Woodward Avenue. The man appeared to be intoxicated, police said, and told the officers he had been hit on the head with a metal object two or three times. He was taken to the hospital where he received stitches, police said.

The next day, an officer was driving through South Norwalk when he saw the alleged victim and Linares arguing on Grove Street. The victim was holding the ice scraper, which he said Linares had used to attack him during an argument about a blanket and pillow, according to police. The ice scraper had blood stains on it, police said.

Linares was taken into custody but denied hitting the other man, police said. Linares said the reported victim had been fighting with a third man when he fell and hit his head.
