The explosion was reported around 7:30 p.m., Sunday, July 21, to the Norwalk Fire Department as a fire in the emergency room, said Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Chief Edward Prescott.
When firefighters arrived they learned that an oxygen cylinder/regulator exploded on a transport gurney, Prescott said.
The gurney was transporting a patient into the emergency room and had two attendants. Firefighters found a moderate amount of dust from the discharge of a dry-chemical extinguisher, but no smoke or fire.
Burn marks were found on the wall and ceiling in the area of the explosion.
One of the EMT attendants, from an out of town ambulance service was treated and released, the other EMT and patient were uninjured, Prescott said.
The hospital cleaned the area and returned to normal operations.
Fire Inspector Jesse Granton is handling the investigation, for the Fire Marshal’s Office.
