NORWALK, Conn. — The body of a Bridgeport man who jumped from the the Yankee Doodle Bridge on I-95 in Norwalk was recovered Thursday from the water, according to State Police.
The man was identified as Evol M. Genias, 58, of Bridgeport.
At around 11:11 p.m. on Wednesday, State Police Troop G responded to the area of the Yankee Doodle Bridge over the Norwalk River on I-95 for a report of a person who had possibly jumped from the bridge.
The Norwalk Police and Fire Departments, the Westport Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard all used boats and attempted to locate the person, but were unsuccessful. Members of the State Police Dive Team also responded to search the river.
At around 7 a.m. Thursday, State Police divers found the man later identified as Genias, in the Norwalk River directly below the Yankee Doodle Bridge. Genias was pronounced dead at the scene by Norwalk EMS, according to State Police.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will be conducting a post-mortem examination in order to determine the cause and manner of death. State Police said there does not appear to be any criminal aspect to the incident, which remains under investigation.
