NORWALK, Conn. – A memorial service will be held in the spring for Svea Sommer, 97, of Norwalk, who died Friday, Feb. 20, after a brief illness.
She served in the U.S. Women’s Auxiliary Corps, where she achieved the rank of staff sergeant, during World War II.
During the 1940s, she also was an avid labor organizer for automotive workers.
Sommer later taught students with special needs at Westport’s Staples High School.
Survivors include one daughter, Catherine.
Her husband, John, preceded her in death.
A date for the memorial service will be announced in the future.
