NORWALK, Conn. – Nettie Shipman, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, died Wednesday, Jan. 20. She was 84.
Born in Stamford on Jan. 31, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William and Rhea (Gartenberg) Urmann. She was a graduate of Stamford High School in Stamford and NYU Stern School of Business in 1952. After graduation, she worked as a legal secretary in Manhattan and then, after marriage, moved to Morristown, New Jersey, where she was an administrative assistant for Combustion Engineering. She moved to Norwalk in 1961, where she raised her family.
A resident of Norwalk for over 50 years, she was a member of Temple Shalom and a life member of Hadassah. She was also previously a member of the B’nai B’rith organization. She was dedicated to her family and friends and enjoyed reading, politics and American history.
She is survived by her son, Gregg Shipman and his wife, Marci, of Glastonbury; her daughter, Roberta Tatulli and her husband, Chris, of Trumbull; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Michael and Andrew Shipman of Glastonbury, and Zachary Tatulli of Trumbull.
She was predeceased by her best friend and husband, Stanley Shipman.
Services will take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Temple Shalom, 259 Richards Ave., Norwalk. Burial will follow at the Independent Hebrew Society/Temple Shalom Cemetery.
