NORWALK, Conn. Michael Daniel Franz, a former Norwalk resident, died suddenly on Wednesday, Aug. 22. He was 55.
Franz was born Jan. 24, 1957, in Stamford to the late Francis D. and Patricia Chisholm Franz. Raised in Norwalk, he graduated from Norwalk High School in 1975. He lived in San Francisco for 10 years, where he met his wife, Catherine.
After moving to Ireland, Franz worked as a girls basketball coach at His Holy Family Secondary School in Newbridge. An avid sports fan, he knew endless facts and statistics about almost any sport and was a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, his family said.
Franz is survived by his wife, Catherine Cahill Franz; three children, Rory, Daniel and Katie Franz; a brother, Peter (Marjorie) Franz, of Norwalk; a sister, Mary Anne Franz and her spouse, Carol Keogh, of Stratford; a nephew and a niece; and extended family in Ireland.
Funeral services will be held in Ireland.
