Chapman and his wife, Nancy, had operated the hyperlocal news website since 2012. Both are also former employees of the Daily Voice.
"Mark touched many, many lives in his career as an editor. He was kind, generous and a good teacher," Nancy Chapman wrote of her husband on her website.
Mark Chapman had also worked for The Hour, the Cape Cod Times, the Vero Beach Press Journal, the Wilmington Star News, the Boston Herald and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, among others. His first online journalistic venture was in Florida, the Englewood Edge.
He grew up on Cape Cod and had a lifelong love of musical theater.
His wife said he hadn't felt well in the day before his death, suffering a fever and chills.
In addition to his wife Nancy, Chapman is survived by his son Eric and his two cats.
