Marietta Ruel, 77, Norwalk Community College Teacher

MONROE, Conn. - Marietta Ruel, of Monroe, died Sunday, March 24. She was 77.

Ruel was born July 23, 1935 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, daughter of Frank and Ana Schwickert.

Ruel graduated from the University of Connecticut and was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship to attend Brown University where she received a Masters Degree in French literature. She taught German and French for many years at Masuk High School. After retiring, she continued to teach German at Norwalk Community College.

Ruel was a member of Holy Cross Church in Fairfield, Conn.

Ruel is survived by her children, Alicia Laing of Stamford, Conn., Gregory Ruel of Ringoes, N.J. and Christopher Ruel of Lovettsville, Va.; four grandchildren; siblings and their spouses, Stella Klanchich, Peter (Diena) Schwickert, Ana (Reno) Raffaeli, Lucia (Steve) Thomashefski; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph.

Calling hours will be Monday, April 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Drive, Fairfield Conn. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown, Conn. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association or the American Cancer Society.
