NORWALK, Conn. – Lester Oliver Platt Jr. of Norwalk died Dec. 22 at home. He was 77.
The son of Lester O. Platt Sr. and Mary Platt, he was born in Fall River, Mass. He lived there until enlisting in the Air Force in 1952. Platt was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where he remained until 1956.
He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal in Germany during his tour of duty.
In 1956, Platt moved to Norwalk, where he began a 26-year career working as a traffic control systems engineer for the automatic signal traffic control division of L.F.E. Inc. From 1982 to 1991, he worked for Traffic Actuated Systems Inc. in Ridgefield.
Platt enjoyed bowling and coaching youth sports and had a love for the Boston Red Sox. He was a member of the Laurels Athletic Club.
He is survived by his wife, Judith A. Rogers Platt; three children, Tara (Michael) Palmer, of Norwalk, Shawn (Amy) Platt, of Bethel, and Scott (Sandra) Platt, of Trumbull; and seven grandsons. He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Schlemmer.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk. A private burial will take place at a later date.
