Helen Sontra, 101, Norwalk Native

NORWALK, Conn. -- Helen Sontra, a Norwalk native, died Thursday, Oct. 29. She was 101. 

Sontra was born in Norwalk to the late Joseph and Bertha (Gyulai) Henczel. She was a member of the Community Baptist Church. She was a plane spotter during World War II and worked as a dental hygienist for many years. 

She was predeceased by her husband, William Sontra.

Sontra is survived by her niece Jodie Daher of Norwalk and her grandnieces Alixandrya Daher of Orlando and Danica Daher of Norwalk; step-daughters, Suzanne Virgulak, Linda Van Buskirk and Margie Betts, step-grandchildren; Timothy Betts, Matthew Van, Buskirk, and Christa Van Buskirk and two step-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the service.
