Elizabeth McMahon, 97, Of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. -- Elizabeth M. McMahon, a lifelong resident of Norwalk, died on Sunday, Jan. 10. She was 97.

McMahon has been an involved member of the community as a volunteer, educator and student. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1936 and then attended the College of New Rochelle from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 1940. She began her 50 year career in education teaching English and History at Norwalk High and Center Jr. High.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: William J. Cotter, Jr., Alicia Cotter Wilson, Patricia McMahon Cammermeyer, Christopher J. McMahon, Timothy R. McMahon, Peter C. McMahon, Therese McMahon Illes, Frederick F. McMahon III, and Eileen V. McMahon.

She is predeceased by her siblings, Virginia A. Cotter, Frederick F. McMahon, Bernice Boerum and John N. McMahon.

Visiting hours are from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. A Catholic Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle in Norwalk followed by burial at St. John Cemetery.
