Becker was born Nov. 29, 1928, to the late Monica and John Carey in Long Island. Having moved to Connecticut from Queens in 1956, she lived in Norwalk for 47 years before she and her husband retired to Southbury.

After graduating from Notre Dame College in Staten Island, she enjoyed careers in both teaching and banking. She was an active member of the communities she lived in. Having grown up enjoying camping adventures, she continued the tradition with her children and could easily identify edible plants, treating her family to fruit off the vine on their many hiking excursions. She was a swimmer, an avid reader, loved the New York Times crossword puzzle, singing, dancing and animals. She always found time to listen to anyone in need.

Becker was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Faith Sorando. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Joseph Becker of Southbury, and their children Virginia Menz of Naugatuck, Kevin Becker (his wife, Myrtha) and Elizabeth Becker (her husband, John); grandchildren Nissa Bartalsky (her husband, Michael) of Fairfield, Brandon Becker and Brian Becker; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel at Sacred Heart Church at 910 Main St. S., Southbury. A Mass to celebrate her life will follow at 11:30 a.m. A private burial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
