Are you planning to celebrate Earth Hour? On Saturday night, millions of people all over the world have pledged to turn off all electronic devices for one hour, starting at 8:30 p.m., to raise awareness for sustainable energy. According to the World Wildlife Fund, which is organizing the event in the U.S., hundreds of millions of people and organizations have already promised to go dark, including Times Square and the city of Chicago.
All over the world individuals, communities, businesses and governments are creating new examples for our common future new visions for sustainable living and new technologies to realize it, said United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a prepared statement. Tomorrow, let us join together to celebrate this shared quest to protect the planet and ensure human well-being. Let us use 60 minutes of darkness to help the world see the light.
