Westport First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff put the price tag for storm damage in Westport as "at least $1.1 million." Town officials have reported this figure to the state. It includes a preliminary estimate of $829,000 in municipal damage and expenses and at least $300,000 in residential damage that insurance companies may not return to homeowners. State officials will relay this number to federal officials. If a $2.85 million threshhold is met, some form of federal aid may be forthcoming. With Westports estimate alone, clearly the county will easily meet that mark, Joseloff said. However, to qualify, there must 100 homes in Westport with major damage, as well as in each of the other affected communities. We are still evaluating that in Westport, he said.
