Former Norwalk Officer in Coma After Weston Crash

WESTON, Conn. – A former Norwalk police sergeant suffered serious injuries when he lost control of his motorcycle on Weston’s Newtown Turnpike.

Russell “Chuck” Fallo, a 57-year-old town employee, was traveling north on his way to work Friday when he hit black ice and lost control of his bike, said Weston Police Sgt. Matt Brodacki. Fallo was taken to Norwalk Hospital.

“We are waiting for an update, but I believe over the weekend he went from critical to serious condition,” Brodacki said. “I also heard they were bringing him out of an induced coma, but I am not sure exactly when."

Sharon Simon of Norwalk Hospital said Monday she couldn’t comment on the extent of Fallo’s injuries but said he was “stable.”

Although the exact cause of the accident was still under investigation, the stretch of road where Fallo lost control is of major concern to officers. Brodacki said every time temperatures dip below freezing the road quickly ices up.

Lewis Brey, director of Human Resources with Weston Public Schools, said Fallo was hired as a security monitor at the high school in March 2010 and is currently the lead safety officer for the district. Fallo retired as sergeant from the Norwalk Police Department in 2009.

An email was sent to school employees Friday about Fallo’s accident, said Superintendent Colleen Palmer. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with Chuck and his family. Chuck is beloved by the high school community and beyond,” Palmer said.

“We are anxiously awaiting positive news,” she said.
