Verizon Upgrade To Hit Area Before Year's End

Stamford is among the initial markets in Connecticut set to receive new Verizon Wireless service that will provide significantly greater speed than is currently available, the company has announced. The network expansion is expected to be implemented by 2012.

“By year’s end, we plan to introduce and extend our 4G LTE network to more than 40 Connecticut cities and towns throughout the greater Fairfield, New Haven and Hartford markets,” Christine Berberich, regional president for Verizon Wireless New England, said in a statement. “Customers in these areas can look forward to accessing the country’s fastest 4G mobile technology. With speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G, our 4G LTE network will deliver extraordinary mobile productivity and on-the-go entertainment to our Connecticut customers.”

In addition to Stamford, areas in lower Fairfield County that will have the 4G LTE – or Long Term Evolution – service include Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton, among others. The service launched a bit less than four months ago and is available in several major markets throughout the United States.
