Update on Monroe St. Detour

Update: Drivers can expect Monroe St. to be open this weekend. The Daily Norwalk has been in touch with the CT DOT and we hope to bring you advance notice of future closings so you can plan your route accordingly.

Parts of Monroe Street will be closed today, Friday, as work continues on the Metro-North bridge. Though the Connecticut Department of Transportation has scheduled much of the work at night to avoid disrupting traffic, Sgt. Carlos Cotto of the Norwalk Police Department said it was necessary to close Monroe Street today between South Main Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Representatives from the CT DOT were not immediately available for comment. If drivers cannot avoid the area, Cotto advised them to take Washington St. as an alternate route. Crews hope to reopen Monroe St. before the evening rush hour.

NPD officers are on hand during the road closure to assist with traffic and to escort curious reporters away from the construction area.
