Update, 7:40 a.m.: A flood warning for Fairfield County has been extended to 1:45 p.m., Monday due to lingering rainfall and melting snow at the headwaters of local rivers.
Torrential, day-long rains Sunday made travel frustrating and caused the National Weather Service to warn Fairfield County residents of flooding in urban areas and around small streams.
A flood warning issued for Stamford, Norwalk and New Canaan expires at 1:45 a.m., Monday. A flood watch will remain in effect for Fairfield County until 6 a.m. During heavy rain, motorists should not try to cross roads that are under water.
Rain is supposed to taper off before dawn and there is a slight chance of rain throughout the morning, the National Weather Service says. The sun is expected to come out in the afternoon. Skies should remain clear into Tuesday.
