Update: Amtrak Resumes Regular Service After Boston-Related Shutdown

Updated at 8:15 p.m. Friday: Amtrak will resume limited service between Boston and New York on Friday evening and expects to have regular service on Saturday, the railroad announced Friday evening on its website. Trains should be rolling again in Fairfield and Westchester counties after being stopped at New York's Penn Station for most of Friday.

Original story: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Amtrak service in Fairfield County and Westchester County was suspended indefinitely Friday as service between Boston and New York was shut down while authorities continue to search for the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Amtrak uses parts of Metro-North's New Haven Line through Fairfield County and lower Westchester County.

Metro-North service on the New Haven Line was also operating with delays Friday morning until about 1 p.m. after an Amtrak train was stopped and searched in Norwalk.
